Complicated Posterior Vitreous Detachment by A Bilateral Bergmeister Papilla

Bergmeister's papilla is a benign congenital anomaly, characterized by the persistence of a remnant primitive hyaloid tissue in the form of a membrane encroaching totally or partially on the papilla. It is often asymptomatic and diagnosis is based on clinical findings alone. We report a case of Bergmeister's papilla discovered incidentally in a 54-year-old female patient with no previous history presented to our department for myodesopsias and phosphenes. Clinical examination revealed a corrected visual acuity of 10/10 P2 in both eyes, the anterior segment was normal. Fundus examination revealed a vitreous membranous formation appended to the papilla in both eyes and a partial posterior vitreous detachment, with macular miliary drusen. The diagnosis of a bilateral Bergmeister papilla complicating a posterior vitreous detachment was therefore made, given the typical appearance, and the absence of signs in favor of benign or malignant tumor pathology.
